PeakFinder USA West App Reviews

Fun to Play With

Although I have not yet used the app outside, it is still loads of fun. Any geography or map enthusiast should give it a try. I would like to see a better method of rendering the labels. Although the app is very easy to use without any instructions, the way online users guide will reveal a little more depth.

Cool App

I like that it’s simple and not cluttered, the app did work and find the correct peaks after refreshing location. It only works in Landscape orientation, in future versions I’d like to see it work in Portrait as well.

Good when you have service!

I like this app when I am a car passenger on a road trip-good for identifying mounts along the way. Used it successfully yesterday when we very unexpectedly had service at Mt Rainiers Sunrise area.

Awesome app

Love this app. Easy to use and informative. Nothing else like it (that I am aware of)

Worthless - Cant See the Grand Teton

Inaccurate and a waste of money.

A must for anyone in Colorado!

Love using this app along the Front Range!

If you climb/hike this is worth getting!

If you do much hiking or climbing in areas that you arent familiar with, this is certainly an app to get. I highly recommend it. I gave 4 stars only because it can be a little hard to decipher. The UI could certainly be improved but it is very functional.

Could be great, but its not

I love the idea, and still use it as no other app has offline capability. But ive been using this app for a few years now have had the following problems: - it consistently will not label prominent peaks. AsIm writing this im looking right at Pikes Peak, 12 miles away. It shows the mountain contour but doesnt label it. This happens all the time. - the GPS locator fails to find where I am. Starting Google Maps and then going back seems to fix this for some reason. Better labeling and better GPS and i would give this five stars. But after years without improvement im not holding my breath.

Funky Compass

This could be a truly amazing, killer app. Unfortunately I can never really get it to work; at least not with my iPhone 6s. Im not sure who is to blame for that (Apple?) but its largely useless until it gets fixed. Three stars for the idea, and creative UI.

It could be deadly to rely on this toy

From Battleground, WA, with a huge snow-covered mountain clearly visible to the north Peakfinder didnt even get the horizon line right, let alone the mountain ID. For the app to be that wrong without any warning of the inaccuracy is scary.
